Using direct, explicit instruction grounded in Orton-Gillingham principles, I help students build the essential skills needed to read fluently and confidently at grade level. Whether your child is struggling to read, you’re concerned about your kindergarteners’ phonemic awareness abilities or you’re looking to accelerate your child’s literacy development, I partner with you to support their academic growth. My one-on-one tutoring sessions are personalized to strengthen reading proficiency through focused instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, writing, spelling and grammar—the foundational skills for unlocking the written code.

About Me
I'm Mrs. A, and I’m passionate about empowering students and families with the knowledge, tools and confidence they need to thrive academically. For 13 years, I worked as a classroom teacher and cherished the opportunity to create a nurturing, family-like environment where children felt safe to make mistakes, take risks and grow as learners. Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed the struggles many students—and their families—encounter on the path to becoming confident readers. That’s why I’m dedicated to helping children understand how they learn best, equipping them with practical strategies and guiding them to read with ease, confidence and joy. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Special Education. I launched Mrs. A Tutoring in August 2023 and find great joy in continuing to learn and grow as an educator. I’ve completed training in Unlocking the Reading and Grammar Code and Orton-Gillingham+ through the Institute for Multisensory Education. I also completed training for Multisensory Math 1 with Marilyn Zecher. I am currently training in the Barton Reading and Spelling System. While I am not yet a certified Barton Tutor, I am able to support students beginning at level 1 of the program. I have a deep commitment to helping children who struggle and am continually expanding my understanding of how students with dyslexia and ADHD/ADD learn and the most effective teaching strategies to support their learning. I’m excited to partner with you and your child as we uncover their strengths and ignite their passion for learning.
Instructional Programs and Methods
At Mrs. A Tutoring, instruction is focused on the effective Orton-Gillingham principles. Through a combination of engaging activities, repetition, and multi-sensory experiences, students learn the essential skill of decoding words. With a focus on direct and explicit instruction, students gain a deeper understanding of the language and its underlying patterns. By breaking down language components into manageable parts, and teaching them systematically, students receive the targeted support they need to succeed.
Originally designed to address the needs of students struggling with dyslexia, the Orton-Gillingham approach has proven effective for students of all abilities. Whether students are grappling with specific learning challenges or simply aiming to enhance their language skills, instruction is designed to meet their unique needs.
Unlocking the Reading Code is a brain-based program designed to accelerate learning. This transformative program leverages neuroplasticity to create new cognitive pathways, ensuring academic growth and unleashing students’ full reading potential. Unlocking the Reading Code uses symbols, games, pictures and explicit instruction to teach reading, grammar and spelling.
Multi-Sensory Math 1 by Marilyn Zecher
Multi-Sensory Math is an instructional approach to math grounded in the Orton-Gillingham principles traditionally used in reading instruction. This method uses engaging, hands-on activities to help students develop a strong foundation in numeracy. Beginning with concrete experiences and gradually progressing to more abstract concepts, students build a deep understanding of quantity, place-value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions. Multi-Sensory Math is designed to complement and enhance any existing math curriculum, making it a valuable support for learners at all levels.
